This training is for anyone, of any gender, who wants to learn how we do things at GBC so you can use our approach to program design and facilitation in your own work.

If you are a teacher wanting to facilitate engaging conversations with students about wellbeing, mental health or consent…

If you’re a coach, trainer or counsellor wanting another lens to add to your work with groups in guiding them to create change…

If you are a health practitioner or yoga teacher, looking to design and run your own wellbeing retreats or take your existing retreat to the next level…

Or simply a human being who wants to run a camp, retreat, weekend, a regular women’s or men’s circle, or any event that gets people talking…

This training will give you the knowledge skills and confidence to build strong connections within a group; to guide them into rich conversations and meaningful contemplation on their challenges, their goals and their behaviours; and to support them to implement meaningful changes in their lives.

The training will be led by Good Blokes Co founder, Mike Dyson. It will be an interactive, experiential training where we will mine the wisdom of the group and you will be able to pick the brains of Mike’s experience on hundreds of leadership retreats, corporate workshops, rites of passage camps, and in-school programs.

You’ll network with a group of like minded humans for 3 days, jam packed with presentations, workshops and opportunities to practice the skills.

You will learn and practice:

  2. The facilitation approach that maximises engagement and safety.

  3. Growing your facilitation toolbox of creative activities, challenges and games that foster connection, stimulate mindful reflection and allow open conversation.

The Content

DAY ONE

We’ll introduce the Good Blokes Co Program Map in great detail and you’ll learn how to use it as a facilitation guide and also to design powerful programs.

We’ll explore engagement and connection - how to get a diverse range of people on board and make them feel comfortable, connected and engaged within a group.

You’ll learn the GBC facilitation mindset. Our approach to facilitation that makes it easy to switch into facilitation mode to garner maximum engagement on difficult topics with a minimum of energy.

You’ll develop your facilitation toolbox of activities and there’ll be opportunities for some participants to practice facilitating activities with real time feedback.

And all the while, we’ll be networking with other facilitators, and learning from each others intentions and ideas for group work.

DAY TWO

We move from connection to reflection, and learn a framework for creating safe spaces for deeper conversations. We’ll practice leaning into open and honest conversations and learn how to create an environment where people feel enthusiastic about exploring deeper topics as a group.

We’ll build further upon the facilitation skills toolbox, exploring a wide range of activities that can be moulded to fit any purpose. We’ll explore perspectives in framing, holding and debriefing activities for maximum reflection and group learning.

We’ll explore group dynamics and managing a groups energy across the journey of a program towards a desired outcome.

We’ll practice working with difficult participants and situations. We’ll troubleshoot and problem-solve real and imagined situations and build confidence in transforming conflict into opportunities for real learning and growth.

We’ll explore our personal challenges and obstacles as facilitators and program designers as a group. We’ll consider how embracing our own challenges can be a tool for increasing engagement in participants.

DAY THREE

We’ll explore action and direction - how we can support participants to clarify their goals and hopes and to solidify this into real growth and change.

We’ll examine the importance of participants in acknowledging their strengths and harnessing those strengths in service of personal and group goals.

We’ll consider how to provide ongoing support and brainstorm effective solutions to one of the great challenges of group work, supporting participants after the program.

You’ll leave this training with a new perspective on all aspects of group work, a stack of new ideas and a community of like minded facilitators to continue to learn and grow alongside. You’ll also expand your ideas of your own strengths and cement the value of your unique perspective as a facilitator.
